Let’s start with an absolutely shocking verdict out of Minnesota in the case of 26-year veteran police officer Kim Potter. Officer Potter was found guilty this week of both first-degree and second-degree manslaughter when she mistakenly shot and killed Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in which Wright resisted arrest and attempted to flee the scene with Officer Potter’s partner hanging from the driver’s door.

The “victim,” Daunte Wright, 20-years old, was an absolute scumbag who had an active arrest warrant for aggravated armed robbery and for possession of a firearm without a permit. The warrant stemmed from an incident in which he held a young woman at gunpoint, in her own home, and attempted to rob her of her rent money.

Now, former officer Potter awaits sentencing in which she could face up to 15 years in prison for the charge of first-degree manslaughter and 10 years for second-degree manslaughter. No doubt her legal team should file an appeal as Potter actions were justified and negligence was not a factor as she clearly intended to use her taser instead of her firearm.

Later today the College Football Playoffs begin with the Alabama Crimson Tide taking on the Cincinnati Bearcats followed by the Michigan Wolverines against the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama, led by Heisman favorite Bryce Young, is favored by 13.5 points against the Bearcats, who finished the season 13–0. In the second match-up, the Georgia Bulldogs are 7.5 point favorites over Big 10 Champion Michigan. I predict that Alabama will cover the spread and prove to be too talented for the Bearcats. In the second game, I have Michigan pulling the upset over the Bulldogs. Michigan is a well-balanced team that plays a very similar style to Georgia. Both teams rely on a heavy run game and stout defense. The team that forces the most turnovers will likely win in what I predict to be a defensive showdown.

That’s all for now. Until next time, Go Fish.
